Use Case: Task Template

Task templates are a powerful tool to utilize for automatically creating a series of tasks upon component creation. In the following example, we will walk through the purpose of task templates, using the component category ‘Shots’ as our baseline. 

First, navigate to ‘Organization’ in the header nav bar, and then ‘Unit Tasks’ in the side nav bar. In the example image above, we can see that we have three unit tasks for assets, and two for shots. Currently, when creating components of category ‘Shots’, we will only be able to create ‘Layout’ and ‘Animation’ tasks from that component. For argument’s sake, let’s say we wanted some more options when creating ‘Shots’ components. Let’s create some more unit tasks using the ‘Create Unit-Task’ button:

Using the ‘Create Unit-Task’ button, we’ve created three more tasks of category ‘Shots’ for use in our task templates. Let’s navigate to ‘Templates’ and add these to a new template:

Now that we’ve created this template, we can use it when creating components of category ‘Shots’. Let’s see an example of this below:

After creating the component, we can navigate to shot007 in the Components section to see the tasks associated with the component. 

From this view, we can select the tasks and change assignees, statuses, bid hours, etc. as desired. Task templates are a powerful tool to speed up our workflow in Envisage, and we can create as many custom templates to suit our needs.
